My story

We are lucky enough to live in rural Staffordshire, surrounded by lush fields and beautiful routes for walking and running. It's a far cry from the crowded informal settlements of Nairobi, where Christian Aid's partner 'Beacon of Hope' is working to help people make tiny urban farms and grow food to eat and sell.

We are lucky enough to be able to plan ahead. To plan fun things and to plan for the proverbial 'rainy day'. It's a world away from waking up each morning not knowing if you'll earn enough to buy food for your children that day.

There is a lot of uncertainty, fear and division in the world in 2026, and it's easy to feel powerless. But be assured that any donation you make here will support the work going on in the backstreets of Kenya's capital, and improve the lives of families who just want a bit more security day to day. Then they'll have a foundation on which to build a better way of life. And that's something everyone deserves.

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
