My story

This May, I’m taking on 70k in May to support families facing hunger. I will be both swimming and walking to cover at least 70k. Some of my walking will be to tend my allotment, where I can grow extra fruit and vegetables. I won't go without food if my harvest is poor.

In Nairobi, parents like Fridah are growing food in any available small spaces so their children don’t go without and there is extra to sell. Beacon of Hope, Christian Aid's partner in Kenya are teaching people like Fridah how to make the best of the spaces they have and how to choose the crops that will sell. This gives them confidence to pass on their knowledge to friends and neighbours.

As one of the participants commented, "your prayers won't feed us".

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
