My story

Marlow Christian Aid Group consists of churches across Marlow, Marlow Bottom, Bisham and Little Marlow working together to raise funds for Christian Aid.

During Christian Aid Week this year, we will be holding church collections, delivering collection envelopes in selected roads, and collecting in Marlow High Street on Saturday 16th May. Also, a concert is being held at 7pm on Sunday 10th May at Christ Church Marlow by Taplow Youth Choirs and a sponsored walk on Saturday 25th April with all proceeds from both events going to Christian Aid.

This year, Christian Aid is highlighting its work in Nairobi, Kenya, including mothers facing the devastating reality of urban poverty and the daily struggle to feed their children.

By funding urban farming projects alongside specialist training from our partner Beacon of Hope, we can help parents fight food insecurity, grow fresh vegetables in small city spaces and earn an income to support their families.

This May, we invite you to help mothers like Fridah and Belinda living in crowded informal settlements so they can protect their children from hunger and grow a more hopeful future.

Belinda lives with her husband, David, and their five children in a one-room rented home in Dagoretti, Nairobi. Space is tight and income is uncertain. Work in the settlement is unreliable. When there is no work, there is no money. And when there is no money, there is no food. Saving for emergencies once felt impossible.

In the informal settlement of Dagoretti in Nairobi, many parents wake each morning knowing they must earn money that day. If they do not, their children may not eat that night. For Fridah, this pressure is constant. She is a recently widowed grandmother and the sole provider for her family. Rent, school costs, water and food all depend on what she can earn. When I wake up, I have a lot of worries. Sometimes I don’t have food. Now I’m responsible for everything.

Please donate and help someone push back against poverty this Christian Aid Week.

Thanks for your support.

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
