My story

We're fundraising this Christian Aid Week to support families facing hunger and give them more secure futures.

In Nairobi, parents like Fridah are growing food in small spaces to make sure their children can eat. With support from Christian Aid and their partner Beacon of Hope, families are able to grow vegetables and sell the surplus, giving them much needed income.

On Saturday 9 May we'll be holding our annual sponsored 'Readathon' in church, hoping to attract a steady stream of volunteer readers. This year we’ll be reading St Luke’s Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles out loud, and hopefully raising a lot of money.

During Christian Aid Week 10-16 May we'll be holding a house-to-house collection round some of the roads in our parish, putting collecting envelopes through doors and inviting the residents to donate.  We’ve been doing this for a number of years and are very grateful for the generous response.

And throughout May we are going to try to meet Christian Aid’s challenge of walking 70km, collectively as a church community. The distance round our church site is a third of a kilometre, and we are hoping between us to clock up 210 ‘loops round the church’, using our push chairs, walking frames and wheelchairs as well as feet!

Please help us reach our target!

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
