My story

This Christian Aid Week, we're supporting families facing hunger in Nairobi to help themselves.

…urban farmers can grow hope.

In the crowded and bustling "informal settlements" of Nairobi (shanty towns), most parents wake every single day knowing they must somehow earn money that day, otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. It’s a precarious and frightening daily struggle.

But with tools and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, parents can learn to farm vegetables in the smallest of spaces to feed their families and earn an income. With tools, seeds and training, families can plan for the future. This also helps empower women.

Please give what you can this Christian Aid Week. Any donation you make could help buy seeds for example to kickstart a healthy vegetable garden in a space-saving cone. Cone gardens can grow over 100 plants in a space smaller than a chair!

How your money helps

You can support families facing the daily stress of food insecurity in Nairobi.

In the crowded and noisy settlements of Nairobi, parents like Fridah wake up knowing they must earn money – otherwise their children won’t eat that evening. But with tools, seeds and training from our partner, Beacon of Hope, families can grow nutritious vegetables in small city spaces and grow hope for the future.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • provide seeds and tools so people can grow food in small spaces.
  • fund training so people can plan ahead and protect their livelihoods.
  • support community-led projects that strengthen food security and incomes.
